Dominic Peckham
Assistant Musical Director
Dominic is regarded as one of the UK's finest ambassadors of choral music, both in performance and through his critically acclaimed educational work, with Music Teacher Magazine calling him "The Jamie Oliver of Singing".
A scholar of Chetham’s School of Music and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, he is Assistant Musical Director of The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Director of The Ulster Youth Training Choir, Patron of The Voice Festival UK and Artistic Director and Founder of iSingUK – The Schools Choral Workshops Tour.
He is in demand both at home and abroad as a guest conductor, adjudicator, workshop director, beatboxer, vocal collaborator and presenter for a variety of choral training and educational programmes. Recent appointments include workshop director for The Trinity Guildhall Open University CPD Programme, Workshop Director for BBC Choir Of The Year, and Workshop Director for Music for Youth.
Previous posts include Musical Director of The Edinburgh Singers, The Merchant Voices, Edinburgh Youth Choir, Chorusmaster and Associate Conductor of 2x2 Opera, Director of the CBSO Youth Chorus, Guest Musical Director of The National Youth Training Choir of Scotland and Assistant Chorusmaster for The Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Dominic combines these positions with a career as a Tenor in the Chorus of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden where he regularly performs alongside Angela Gheorghiu, Anna Netrebko, Bryn Terfel, Roberto Alagna, Jonas Kaufmann and Placido Domingo. Dominic made his Royal Opera solo debut as Dominic Gent in the world premier of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Anna Nicole under Sir Antonio Pappano.
His conducting credits include: the world premier of Oliver Searle’s Pride, Poverty and Pianos for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, Haydn’s Creation, Beethoven’s Mass in C for The Edinburgh Singers and Orchestra, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Ensemble, The National Police Federation Memorial Service for The British Federation of Youth Orchestras and Chorusmaster for ‘The Voice’ at the BBC Proms.
As a Chorusmaster Dominic has prepared for Stephane Deneve, the late Richard Hickox OBE, Bernard Labadie, Simon Halsey, Christopher Bell, Vassily Sinaisky, Sir David Willcocks, Lorin Maazel, Stefan Bevier and John Rutter CBE.
Recent engagements include: ‘Forging Ahead’ for The National Youth Training Choirs of Great Britain and The National Youth Jazz Collective (Barbican, London) including the world premier of Dominic’s Mash’d, Guest Director of Londinium Voices (Natural History Museum, London), Guest Chorusmaster for Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light for CBSO Youth Chorus (Birmingham Symphony Hall), Mahler’s 3rd Symphony for Vassily Sinaisky and The BBC Philharmonic (Bridgewater Hall, Manchester), Guest Speaker and Workshop Director for The National ‘SingUp!’ Conference 2010, Workshop Director of ‘The Big Sing’ for The Music for Youth Festival 2011 (Birmingham Symphony Hall), ‘SingUpforBoys’Voices’ (TheWigmoreHall,London)andVFUK’s ‘Olympic Flashmob’ (Millenium Bridge, London).
Future engagements include: ‘#Synthesis’ for The Ulster Youth Training Choir (Armagh Cathedral), ‘Olympic Voices’ (Ipswich Corn Exchange), preparation for The Philharmonia Chorus’ forthcoming season, ‘The Royal Opera Choral Festival’ (Thurrock) and preparation for NYCGB’s Proms 2012 performances in the Royal Albert Hall.
