Music Advisory Council

Stephen Jackson

Stephen Jackson directs the BBC Symphony Chorus, Trinity College of Music Chamber Choir and the Cheltenham Bach Choir.

He was a chorister at Westminster Abbey, read music at Clare College Cambridge, played the bassoon professionally and spent eight years as a member of the BBC Singers before he finally opted for conducting in the 1980s. In 15 years with the BBC Symphony Chorus he has prepared a huge repertoire for approaching 50 conductors, and also conducted them himself on many occasions, with and without orchestra. He enjoys watching cricket and arranging, both soothing antidotes to conducting.
